This two hour web version of Fietsstraat Amsterdam starts just before morning rush hour. The film is best seen in high definition on a large screen. A free 4K version of the full seven hour film is available for showings. After its premiere, I will post the full version here.

Focused on an Amsterdam street shared by bikes, pedestrians, and vehicles of various sorts, this un-narrated film invites viewers to experience urban mobility as it unfolds: ordinary rhythms, fleeting encounters, and the frictions and negotiations that characterize a contested public space. The film offers both a calm viewing experience and an unfiltered documentary record of how a city organized around bicycles actually feels. Fietsstraat Amsterdam suggests that sometimes the ethnographer’s task is not to conclude but to accompany--to linger on the street, and to invite viewers to do the same.
